High-Reliability Non-Volatile Memory Solutions for Smart Grid Distribution Automation Systems
FRAM (Ferroelectric Random Access Memory) is the optimal non-volatile memory solution for DTU (Distribution Terminal Unit) and FTU (Feeder Terminal Unit) in smart grid distribution automation systems. These critical power distribution terminals require reliable storage for real-time grid parameters, fault records, switching status and communication data in harsh outdoor and industrial environments.
Unlike traditional flash memory or EEPROM, Smart Memories FRAM offers instant write capability (no data saving delay), unlimited read/write cycles (up to 10¹⁴ cycles) and ultra-low power consumption. It eliminates the need for backup batteries during power outages, ensuring complete data integrity even in sudden power failure scenarios common in power distribution networks. This makes FRAM the ideal memory choice for DTU/FTU terminals that demand 24/7 operation and high-frequency data logging.
Stores real-time voltage/current measurements, power quality data and load monitoring information for distribution networks. Fast write speed ensures no data loss during high-frequency sampling (up to 1ms interval) and ultra-low power consumption extends terminal battery life in remote areas.
Records fault current, fault time, fault location and switch action logs for feeder lines. High reliability (10¹⁴ write cycles) ensures long-term storage of fault data without memory degradation, and instant write capability captures critical fault information even during power outages.
Stores terminal operating parameters, communication settings, protection thresholds and calibration data. FRAM's non-volatile nature eliminates the need for frequent parameter reconfiguration after power cycling, while high endurance supports unlimited parameter updates during terminal maintenance.
Logs equipment status changes, communication events, alarm information and maintenance records. Wide operating temperature range (-40°C to 85°C) ensures stable performance in extreme outdoor environments, and EMI resistance prevents data corruption from grid electromagnetic interference.
